NORWALK - News 12 Connecticut's What's Ailing You looks at whether doctors should proactively assess their patients' need for psychological help.

Some in the medical field believe a patient should be given a questionnaire to find out if they're depressed.

Dr. Michael Schwartz, of Darien-based Soundview Medical, says questionnaires can be handy to help find out if patients are feeling hopeless, or having trouble sleeping or eating. Ideally though, he says patients are sharing this information with their doctors anyway because it affects their overall health.

Dr. Schwartz says mental health issues are more prevalent than ever.
