Wilton asks some residents to evacuate ahead of storm

WILTON - Wilton officials have advised some residents to evacuate their homes ahead of Hurricane Irene.

Officials say Arrow Head Road is notorious for flooding during heavy rainstorms. They say with Irene coming this weekend, the Norwalk River will likely rise very quickly.

The non-mandatory evacuation order has been issued partly because three years ago, the river rose so fast that boats had to be brought in to rescue stranded residents on the block.

Emergency officials say if residents decide to stay in their homes and do experience flooding, they advise them to stay in an inner room of the home on the first or second floor.

A memo was also delivered throughout the neighborhood with information on an emergency shelter that will be set up by the town on Sunday.
