Wilton police urge drivers to yield to emergency vehicles

WILTON - Wilton police are telling drivers to be prepared to pay up if they fail to pull over for emergency vehicles.Connecticut law states that drivers should pull over to the right in the vicinity of an emergency vehicle, even if that vehicle is moving in the opposite direction.

Police say they will issue $82 tickets to motorists who violate the law. Authorities say even if officers don?t witness the violation, they will follow up on complaints and could issue tickets later. The president of the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps says there has been an increase in drivers failing to yield to emergency vehicles. He says the reasons include drivers who are unaware of the law, racing or those who are distracted by talking or texting on their cell phones.
