STAMFORD - Voters in three local communities went to the polls yesterday for special elections.

In Darien and Stamford, Democrat Carlo Leone beat Republican Bob Kolenberg 4,294 to 3,245 to take the state senate seat previously held by Andrew McDonald.

In Bridgeport, Democrat Charlie Stallworth beat out a slew of candidates to take the state representative seat previously held by Chris Caruso.

Both McDonald and Caruso stepped down to take jobs in the administration of Gov. Dannel Malloy.
