NORWALK - Snow began falling around 5 a.m. in Connecticut as a winter storm hit the area. By mid-morning, the snowfall tapered off in most counties to sleet and rain.
A winter weather advisory was in effect until 3 p.m. Though it rained at the Connecticut shoreline and less than three inches of snow accumulated, the wintry mix resulted in accumulations of four inches further inland.
Motorists are warned to drive slowly and with caution, as roads remain extremely slick and icy. Officials reported black ice on the Merritt Parkway, as well as slippery conditions on I-95 and Route 7 in Norwalk. Road conditions further north, near Danbury, were also bad due to snow and ice.
A wind advisory was in effect for all of Sunday, with gusts of up to 40 miles per hour.
