STRATFORD - United Illuminating reported 19 power outages in Stratford affecting more than 800 customers early Sunday morning as a result of Saturday’s winter storm.

One homeowner in Stratford sent News 12 a video of a downed power line in her front yard which created a dangerous situation.

A tree limb landed on a power line off of Huntington Avenue causing the line to snap and catch fire. Neighbors say crews shut off the power so they could put out the blaze and restore the wires.

Utility crews reminded residents to stay at least 20 feet away from any fallen wires and to be cautious of what wires are touching.

Crews spent the day repairing wires and restoring power to the neighborhood.
