WESTPORT - The Westport Police and Fire departments reported Sunday that a swimmer may have drowned in the Long Island Sound off the coast near Compo Beach. Both units, along with the Westport Marine unit, the Norwalk Police Department and the Coast Guard have sent out rescue crews.

According to Westport?s assistant fire chief, a witness placed a call around 12:30 p.m. to the department that a swimmer may be in trouble a few hundred feet off shore.

Officials say there is currently no one reported missing, but they will continue their search until they have reason to believe everyone is safe.
