NORWALK - Witnesses to a ride accident at the Norwalk Oyster Festival say the images of injured children are viscerally haunting.

Police say 18 people were injured when the "Zumur" swing ride malfunctioned on Sunday, sending 13 people to the hospital. Festival visitors say it was disturbing to see kids on the ground getting medical treatment.

"I heard a loud booming sound and then saw the ride kind of collapse, come down and then a bunch of swings smashed into each other," says a witness who refused to appear on camera.

Officials say the 12 children and one adult who were taken to local hospitals have all been released.
