BRIDGEPORT - A woman and two children were able to safely escape a Bridgeport house fire last night.

It happened on Iranistan Avenue near Lauren Avenue around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Fire officials say flames were spreading from the second to the third floor when they got there.

They say they had to open up the walls of the house to get the blaze under control.

The woman and children are staying with family. Two pets, a cat and a dog, did not survive.
