STAMFORD - A woman died after she fell from the third floor of her apartment building in Stamford Thursday night, police say.

Police say it was not immediately clear whether the fall was unintentional or if the woman jumped.

Authorities say they received a 911 call around 10:20 p.m. when a neighbor at 1500 Bedford St. heard a loud thud and saw someone lying on the ground from his window.

Police say the 28-year-old woman, who was from Turkey, showed vital signs at the scene but was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say they are having difficulty finding her next of kin. They say she had only been in the country for about two months.

Investigators say they believe she lived alone, but may have had a boyfriend. They say that earlier in the day, she had asked her landlord to lower the cost of rent, but he declined.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Stamford police at 203-977-4444.
