BRIDGEPORT - Police in Bridgeport say a woman was killed, and her 9-year-old son was injured after they were struck by a pickup truck.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. Monday at the intersection of West Avenue and John Street.

The mother, identified by police as 41-year-old Carmen Martinez, was pronounced dead at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Her son was transferred from Bridgeport Hospital to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police say the driver of the pickup truck, 70-year-old Joseph Frazier, of Massachusetts, stopped immediately after the collision. He has not been arrested in connection with the incident.
