STAMFORD - A worker at a Stamford scrap yard was rescued this morning after firefighters say he was knocked unconscious and became trapped on a 30-foot high platform.

Officials say it happened at Rubino Brothers on Canal Street at around 9:30 a.m.

Rescuers say the worker was on a 30-foot scaffold working on one of the machines in the yard when he was hit in the head by either a piece of the machine or something traveling up one of the conveyors. They say the worker was drifting in and out of consciousness while crews were trying to get him down.

Officials say the victim was taken to Stamford Hospital. Police have not yet released his name or given an update on his condition.
