NEWTOWN - The family of slain Newtown teacher Victoria Soto is warning fellow families about fraudulent websites asking for donations.

Family members say at least one person has set up a fake memorial site, and officers say similar scams have taken place every day since the Dec. 14 shooting. Authorities are urging people to do their research before sending money, urging discretion when receiving a phone call or email directly from someone.

The Vicki Soto Memorial, which will donate funds to someone pursuing a career in education, has been approved by the family. Eastern Connecticut State University and Stratford High School have both set up education scholarships, as well.
