The northwest Bronx community and its leaders are pushing back against proposed express bus service cuts with a new petition.
Democratic district leader of the 81st Assembly District Eric Dinowitz says if service cuts are implemented, buses would stop running downtown from North Riverdale on the BxM1 at 4:45 p.m. and on the BxM2 at 3 p.m.
Right now, he says service continues into late-night hours, which is why he's started a petition to prevent cuts. These changes would be part of the MTA's bus redesign plan aimed at improving efficiency. But Dinowitz says route changes, which are also part of the plan, would cut out a Mount Sinai Hospital stop.
An MTA spokesperson said, "The Bronx Bus Network redesign will improve service for customers by simplifying routes, increasing frequency on major corridors, balancing stop spacing and shortening commute times. This is a customer-led process and we are committed to making sure everyone's feedback is considered as we move forward with the redesign."
Dinowitz, who is running for City Council, has had success against the MTA before -- prompting them to improve accessibility on the Mosholu Parkway No. 4 line.
