NORWALK - Norwalk city officials announced a plan today to increase security at schools in light of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The city has formed a school safety planning committee to look at ways to increase the safety of students in its schools.

Officials say the city hasn’t looked at school safety since 2001. While the panel will consider what long-term safety options should be considered, the schools will immediately implement short-term solutions like ensuring locks and security cameras already in place at schools are functioning and in good working order.
