An officer-involved shooting happened in Bridgeport early Wednesday morning as police tried to de-escalate a stabbing, according to authorities.
Acting Police Chief Rebeca Garcia says officers responded to a disturbance on Clinton Avenue after 1 a.m. and found 27-year-old Juan Villa making stabbing motions toward another man. Police tried to stop the attack by firing a Taser on the suspect, but that did not stop him.
That led to one of the officers shooting him once in the side, she said.
The suspect went to the hospital and underwent surgery. The stabbing victim is expected to be OK.
Authorities say body camera footage will be made available.
State police and the Stamford's State's Attorney's Office will work with Bridgeport police to investigate the incident.
