Police: 11-year-old girl dies after fire rips through home

A child was killed after flames tore through a home Monday night on Ocean Parkway, according to police.

Police tell News 12 an unconscious 11-year-old girl was found inside the building after firefighters had extinguished the flames.

She has been identified as Shirr Teved.

Crews responded to 911 calls of a fire on the first floor of 761 Ocean Parkway around 10:20 p.m. Monday. News 12 is told the fire started on the first floor and spread up in the building.

It took fire crews about an hour to get the fire under control, and that's when they say they discovered Teved. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police telling News 12 Teved lived in the building. Neighbors say the home was very cluttered.

"She was adorable, a beautiful young girl, everybody wanted to spend time with her. Is it a tragedy beyond words I was devastated this morning when I heard the news," said resident Pearl Fisch.

A funeral service for the Teved was held at Shomrei Hadas chapels in Borough Park Tuesday.

Teved's body will then be flown to Israel for burial.

News 12 is told a firefighter was also hurt, but is in stable condition.

NYC Department of Buildings released a statement saying that the DOB issued a full vacate order for the entire building due to fire damage.

All affected tenants were offered immediate relocation assistance by the American Red Cross.

The official cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
