A New York man is facing charges after police say he sent pornographic images to underage girls from Wilton and tried to meet one of them for sex.
John Hurley III was arrested last week. Police say the 28-year-old used Facebook to reach out to two 15-year-old girls during June and July. They say he sent them sexual pictures of himself and requested the same of the girls.
Facebook has filters that notify law enforcement when a user's activity raises a red flag. Wilton Police Lt. Stephen Brennan says information they received led to them opening an investigation, getting a search warrant and an eventual arrest.
"It was a collaborative effort between New York State Police and the Wilton Police Department," Brennan says. "We were able to make contact with the suspect at his residence, and he was provided the opportunity to turn himself in, which he did."
Police say Hurley did not know the girls before meeting them through Facebook, but he was aware of their age.
