The perfect apology includes six key elements, according to a study by researchers from the University of Ohio.
Researchers say they tested the way 755 people reacted to receiving an apology.
They say key elements like facial expression, eye contact and inflection of voice are all essential to the way an apology is received.
Researchers say the best apologies include acknowledgment of responsibility, offer of repair, expression of regret, explanation of what went wrong and a declaration of repentance.
They say the least effective apologies are ones that ask for forgiveness.
