Police: 3 suspects beat, rob man on Union Avenue

Police say three suspects violently beat a Bronx man with a metal garbage can and shovel before robbing him on Sunday.

It happened near the corner of Union Avenue and East 163rd Street around 6 p.m. Police say the suspects continued to beat the victim while he was on the ground and also stole his wallet.

The 37-year-old victim suffered injuries throughout his body. He was taken to Lincoln Hospital and is expected to be OK.

Police tell News 12 that all three male suspects were wearing gray sweatshirts -- one shirt had a black-checkered design and another suspect was also wearing a black skull hat.

Police have not said if the incident was random or targeted.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
