A Bronx business with ties to Ecuador is stepping in to help the country recover after a devastating earthquake over the weekend.
Remesas USA, a money transfer and courier service in Soundview, began a relief effort Wednesday to help Ecaudorians get basic necessities like lights and food after after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake shook the country Saturday.
"Ecuador gave me my life, what I am right now," says store owner Telly Martinez says. "I was born there, so I stand to give back my time, especially this. The little things we bring to them right now."
Organizers say they will continue the effort for the next week and want to bring hope to the Ecuadorian community.
