April 27 celebrated as National Babe Ruth Day

Today, April 27, has been celebrated as the unofficial Babe Ruth Day since 1947.

It honors the legendary ball player who spent 22 years in the MLB.

Ruth set new records for home runs and slugging percentage while playing for the New York Yankees.

In 1927, he became the first player to hit 60 home runs in one season.

Ruth retired from baseball in 1935. He passed away 13 years later after a battle with cancer.
