Shooting prompts anti-violence rally in Claremont
A fatal shooting in Claremont last weekend prompted neighborhood residents to gather Friday night for an anti-violence rally.
The anti-gun violence group Release the Grip marched to Clay Avenue and East 169th Street, where 30-year-old Rahmel Johnson was shot and killed attending a house party April 23.
The group hopes that by raising awareness in the streets, it can also get some guns off the streets. Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson has been spearheading community efforts to solve gun violence.
Johnson's family was invited to the rally, but organizers say they were still too shaken to attend. Gibson says she hopes the rally's message will reach them.
