Protesters: Attack on Bronx cab driver was a hate crime
The Bangladeshi community rallied Saturday for the Muslim cab driver who was attacked right outside of his Soundview home one week ago.
Mohammed Rahman, 53, told News 12 that he was attacked just before 1 a.m. April 23 while getting home from a shift. He says the attacker asked him for the time, then suddenly punched him, breaking his nose.
The attacker was able to flee the scene. No arrest has been made.
"We are here to show and tell the community and the entire world that what happened is wrong. That what happened is a hate crime. What happened must stop," says community activist Mohammad Majumdar.
Police say they are not investigating the incident as a hate crime.
Rahman is scheduled to have surgery on his broken nose next week.
