Family demanding answers after veteran found on streets
The family of a military veteran is demanding answers as to why he isn't getting the treatment he needs.
Video shows 65-year-old Oliver Jenkins being laughed at as he wandered the streets of the South Bronx.
Jenkins' daughter, Colby, says she can't believe how her father was treated.
"Shame on you for what you did to my father," she says. "It's appalling to know that people would even do something like that and laugh at a situation like that instead of helping."
After Jenkins was found wandering the streets, he was brought to Lincoln Hospital.
"They had to give my father a bath because he was so filthy and dirty," his daughter says. "He's combative, he's belligerent."
Colby says that before being found, her father was at the VA hospital in Manhattan.
"Why was he discharged without proper planning for him?" she says. "They just let him loose out there in the streets. I am disgusted. I am outraged. I am appalled."
The VA hospital issued a statement saying: "VA New York Harbor Healthcare System was outraged and saddened to learn about the circumstances surrounding the filming and mistreatment of one of our veterans...VA New York Harbor also takes seriously its obligation to properly safeguard any personal information within our possession...Without a privacy waiver from the veteran, we are very restricted by privacy laws and policies in what we can provide. Our priority at this time is to review his treatment history and address any concerns he or his family may have regarding the health care he earned and deserves."
