Police: Stores, Assemblyman Victor Pichardo's office ransacked on Jerome Avenue

A string of stores, as well as a politician's office, were broken into Tuesday morning along a busy stretch of Jerome Avenue.

Police say three businesses and Assemblyman Victor Pichardo's office were ransacked. They say the burglar went in through a corridor that connects them all.

The storefronts include a salon, a botanica, a furniture store and the assemblyman's office.

Surveillance video from inside one of the stores shows the suspect breaking in and moving the security camera.

Business owners say about $100 was stolen from the salon, and a door was destroyed in the furniture store.

Pichardo says the suspect did not take any sensitive documents, but his office was left a mess.

"Thank God no one was hurt. No one was around," says Pichardo. "I'm looking forward to working with the small business owners to make sure that anything that was lost will be recouped and I'm working with local authorities to make sure the folks that actually did this are caught quickly."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
