Digging begins for community garden in Mott Haven

A new community garden will soon have a small part of Mott Haven on East 146th Street looking greener.

The garden took about a year to set up, according to volunteers with Banana Kelly, Rebuilding Together NYC, LISC NYC and Deutsche Bank.

Work on an unused space began Thursday morning. By 6 p.m. Friday, officials say the installation will be complete.

The project is part of LISC's Communities for Healthy Food Program, and is designed to provide low-income families with vegetable gardens.
