Lawmaker proposes wheelchair-accessible livery dispatch
A Bronx lawmaker is pushing to help livery cab companies comply with a plan to boost the number of vehicles equipped to help people with disabilities.
The city's Taxi and Limousine Commission is at odds with the Federation of Taxi Drivers over the issue.
The Federation says the handicap-accessible vehicles are expensive and hurt business.
Assemblyman Victor Pichardo has proposed a bill to create a new, city-managed dispatch system that will have a fleet of for-hire, wheelchair-accessible vehicles at the ready.
Critics of Pichardo's plan say it doesn't go far enough.
