Construction to limit City Island parking for summer

Some City Island residents want to know why new construction is set to begin during the area's busiest months.
The work has limited parking in the area -- angering some residents by coinciding with Memorial Day weekend.
The work is part of a citywide, summerlong resurfacing project to address potholes and other damage to roads. It is scheduled to continue every week, Monday through Friday, until the fall.
It will also include new features, like added sidewalks and curbs. Residents say they don't need those other additions and that parking is already a nightmare during the summer on City Island.
The city's Department of Design and Construction says that the summer is the best time to do this kind of work.
"Construction in the summer is ideal for milling and paving, which will allow the contractors to complete the project in a timely manner," officials said in a statement. "We will work closely to inform local businesses, community members and our elected officials of our upcoming construction activities."
