New uniforms for new soccer team boost morale
M.S. 343's soccer team is brand new, but it's already finding success.
At six wins, two losses and one tied game, the team is having an impressive season.
A few months ago, the players didn't even have uniforms.
Coach Steven Beja, a math teacher at the school and lifelong soccer player, spent his own money to buy the players jerseys.
Sandra Vaca, who has two sons on the team, says she didn't know it was the coach who paid for the uniforms until Friday.
The maroon and white uniforms cost him $40 each, and there are about 30 students on the team.
Players say the uniforms have raised their spirits and help them feel like a team -- even a family.
Beja says happy students make his job easier.
