Police: Man shot, assaulted after sale of hundreds of illegal cigarette cartons goes bad

A 54-year-old man who was shot in the elbow in the Bronx was attempting to sell 300 cartons of illegal cigarettes, according to investigators.
Police say the man was shot on Revere Avenue around 2 p.m. yesterday in Throgs Neck.
They say the man had arranged a sale between two men and when they showed up, they attacked the victim by hitting him over the head with a gun, throwing a brick at him and even placing him into a headlock until he was knocked unconscious.
Police say the victim regained consciousness and tried to stop the two men from taking the hundreds of cartons of untaxed cigarettes, but a struggle occurred, and police say one of the suspects' gun went off striking the victim in the elbow.
Police say the two men fled the scene in a red-colored Dodge Caravan, which was captured on surveillance video speeding through the neighborhood.
The man was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where he is in stable condition.
Police say they are still looking for the two men accused of assaulting the man.
