Police: Man charged with murder says he had wrong target
A Bronx man charged with murder has told police that he accidentally shot the wrong guy after allegedly killing 37-year-old Jose Ingles in Hunts Point last month.
Ingles was fatally shot at the intersection of Faile Street and Spofford Avenue while sitting in his van on May 4.
Police say the alleged shooter, 26-year-old Frederick Jones, told them the intended target was not Ingles but another man who was also in a similarly colored vehicle in the same spot.
Surveillance video shows two men approaching Ingles' van and firing shots inside.
Police say Jones got into an argument earlier that evening with an unknown man, also sitting in a van. A shooting then ensued and that's when police say Jones left, got his gun, returned to the same area and opened fire.
Ingles later died at Lincoln Hospital.
Jones is charged with murder and criminal possession of a firearm. Police say a woman was in the vehicle with Ingles just moments before the two men walked up and opened fire. She is a person of interest in the case.
