Slow zone coming to Westchester Square
A "slow zone" is one step closer to being rolled out near Westchester Square.
The proposed zone would add speed bumps, speed limit signs and crosswalks around the area.
Advocates of the project say vehicles have been speeding through the area for years and the safety measures help reduce the potential for accidents around schools and hospitals.
Louis Rocco, president of the Westchester Square Civic Association, says an elderly man was paralyzed by a hit-and-run in the area, and adds that bicyclists have also been struck.
"We are asking, and we got," Rocco said. "I am very proud to be here today."
The slow zone received final approval from Community Board 10 Thursday night, pending some minor paperwork.
Rocco says he expects the upgrades by next month.
