Police: 2 boys in custody after BB gun found in Fannie Lou Hamer School
Two students were taken into custody after they brought a BB gun into a school in the Bronx Thursday, police say.
Police say a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old were taken into custody around 11 a.m. outside the Fannie Lou Hamer School on Jennings Street.
According to police, the 12-year-old boy brought the gun inside the school and handed it off to a 14-year-old boy, who then turned it in to a school official.
Police say the school official contacted them and they removed the boys from the school.
The school sent a letter home to parents informing them of what had happened.
The New York Department of Education released a statement saying, "The safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority. NYPD was immediately informed of an unloaded BB gun that was discovered."
