Espaillat claims victory, Serrano keeps seat in NYS federal primary
New York state's federal primary was Tuesday, and there were two congressional districts up for grabs in the Bronx.
Rep. Charles Rangel's long-held seat was up for grabs for the first time in 46 years because he is retiring.
State Sen. Adriano Espaillat claimed victory in the primary for Rangel's vacated seat in the 13th Congressional District, but a final count was not immediately available in the close race. He is seeking to become the first Dominican-American elected to Congress.
Keith Wright remained slightly behind Espaillat Wednesday, with another seven challengers lagging behind.
As for the 15th Congressional District, incumbent Rep. Jose E. Serrano was able to ward off his challengers and stay on track to keep his seat.
