Police: Driver tried to approach teen in Milford

Milford police are investigating claims an 18-year-old high school student was approached as she walked to school this morning.

Police say the suspect, a man in his 30s, was driving down Harrison Avenue at around 9 a.m. when he spotted the girl walking down the street. Because she was wearing ear buds, investigators say the 18-year-old did not hear the car driving up behind her.

Police say the teen thought the man was asking for directions and walked over to talk to him, only to find out what he really wanted was to pick her up.

According to officials, the teen became uncomfortable and quickly walked away.

Authorities are urging people not to listen to music while walking in public, and to walk on the left side of the street, not on the right, as the girl did, to be able to see oncoming vehicles.

Anyone with information about the driver is asked to contact the Milford Police Department at 203-877-1465.
