All-clear given in Stamford school after bed bug found

Classes were back in session at Springdale Elementary School today after a bed bug was discovered in one of the rooms yesterday, prompting an evacuation.

School officials say the blood-sucking insect was found inside a kindergarten classroom in the building on Hope Street. Following the discovery, children were immediately sent to the media center.

The school called the Stamford Health Department and had that room as well as an adjacent room steam-cleaned and sealed.

Today, health officials inspected the affected facilities and gave the all-clear.

The health department says it is important to check your child's backpack and clothing for bed bugs.
