Firefighters investigate overnight Bridgeport fire

Fire officials in Bridgeport are investigating an early morning fire.

It happened around 5 a.m. on Ellsworth Street.

Firefighters say the family dog got out, but a bird was killed.

Assistant Chief Dominick Carfi says smoke alarms recently installed as part of a citywide safety program did their job.

Carfi says the smoke alarms woke the residents, and they were able to get out safely.
