Tractor-trailer crash causes explosions on I-95

Two people were hospitalized last night after a tractor-trailer collided with a car on I-95 in Fairfield.

Diesel fuel spilling from the tractor-trailer caused explosions along the highway's median, resulting in a massive fire.

The accident happened at around 9:30 p.m. on the northbound side of I-95, between exits 23 and 24. Witnesses reported hearing a loud, terrifying noise and seeing huge flames along the road after the two vehicles crashed into each other. According to fire officials, diesel fuel from the tractor-trailer saturated the concrete median, which then exploded, causing the fire.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Both drivers were taken to Bridgeport Hospital following the crash, and have since been released.
