Mother of critically injured teen facing insurance dilemma

The mother of a Norwalk teen who police say was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident in January says a disagreement with her insurance company is creating a whole new nightmare for her family.

Gillian Escourse says Norwalk Hospital informed her that her 16-year-old daughter, Teanna, will have to be discharged and sent home or transferred to a rehabilitation facility hours away.

Escourse wants the teen to go to Burke Rehab Hospital in nearby Westchester County, but says her insurance company won't pay for it.

Norwalk Hospital says it cannot comment on the case, but does work carefully to make sure all patients get the specialized care they need, regardless of their ability to pay.

Meanwhile, Escourse says local and federal lawmakers are making a special appeal to her insurance company to change its decision.
