Police say copper thieves caught red handed

Norwalk police are thanking a scrap yard worker for helping them recover nearly $4,000 in stolen copper and catch three suspected thieves.

Police say they alerted area scrap yards to be on the lookout for the stolen cooper tubing, after a Wednesday night burglary at the Hocon gas company.

Elvis Day, a worker at LaJoie's Auto and Scrap Yard, says he recognized the stolen copper, and called police as he stalled the suspects.

Workers at Hocon Gas tell us that one of the suspects, Michael Pappas, was a former employee.

All three suspects are being held on bond.
