Bridgeport market sues food pantry over lost business

A Bridgeport church that runs a food pantry on Stratford Avenue says it is being sued by the owner of the market next door.

A pastor from the Apostolic Ark Pentecostal Church says the owner of Convenience Brand Grocery Store has accused the food pantry of taking away its business.

Pastor Rosie Morris says the pantry provides some 5,000 meals each month to the needy. The pantry opened four months ago and only gives out food on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Morris says the pantry has closed temporarily because of the suit, which accuses the church of "unfairly competing."

A manager at Convenience Brand Grocery refused to comment. Both sides are due to appear in court next week.
