Plan would expand evacuation zone around NY nuclear plant

There is a call for a larger evacuation zone around a New York nuclear power plant 22 miles from southwestern Connecticut.

In the wake of the disaster in Japan, lawmakers in Westchester want federal officials to expand the current 10 mile evacuation zone around the Indian Point plant.

They want it spread out to 50 miles.

That would encompass nearly 25 million people, including some in southwestern Connecticut.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says it sees no reason to expand the emergency zone.
