Bridgeport home damaged by lightning

A Bridgeport home was damaged after being struck by lightning early this morning.

The bolt struck the two-family home at 1717 Central Ave. at around 2:45 a.m., blowing out the ceiling. Neighbors say they were woken up by the loud strike, and saw pieces of wood and shingles flying to the ground in flames.

The residents were home at the time, but were not injured. The homeowner, who lives in the downstairs apartment, says he has filed an insurance claim and hopes to get an assessment on the damage as soon as possible.
