Cops: 3 men armed with hammers rob Darien jewelry store

Darien police say they are searching for three suspects who tore through a jewelry store with sledge hammers this morning in a brazen daytime robbery.

Authorities say three black males wearing masks walked into David Harvey Jewelers on Boston Post Road and ordered the patrons and employees onto the ground. They then smashed the display cases, making off with an unknown amount of expensive watches and other jewelry.

According to police, a witness helped them identify a 1989 gray Toyota Camry, which the men used to flee the scene. They say the vehicle belongs to a resident in Brooklyn, but it is unclear whether it had been previously stolen.

Police say they have surveillance video of the suspects, but are not releasing it at this point.
