Layoffs loom as state budget deal fails

(06/27/11) HARTFORD - Governor Dannel Malloy is moving forward today with a plan to lay off thousands of state workers.

This comes after state unions rejected a labor savings concession plan to balance the budget.

The deal did gain the support of a majority of members, but did not reach the majority threshold.

As many as 7,500 state workers could be let go, but Malloy says that he is trying to reduce that number.
