Police probe role of weather in fatal tree accident

State police say they are investigating what role the weather played in this afternoon's deadly tree accident on the Merritt Parkway in Stamford.

Officials say the accident happened on the southbound side between exits 34 and 35. They say the driver of the car was killed by a falling tree, ripped from its roots along the southbound shoulder.

Fire officials say one firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

They have not yet identified the driver and witnesses say two passengers were taken to the hospital.
