Police search for dump truck in fatal I-95 accident

State police are searching for a dump truck that may have been heading northbound on I-95 Saturday when a metal object flew through another car's windshield, killing a Waterbury woman.

Authorities say Sara Betancourt, 40, died instantly while traveling southbound between exits 4 and 5 in Greenwich. They believe the 3.5 -inch locking pin, commonly known as a dog's ear, somehow detached itself from a dump truck and flew over the highway divider, striking the SUV Betancourt was riding in.

Police are asking the driver of the dump truck to come forward. They say they want to examine the truck and figure out how the part came off in order to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
