Army vet on 7,000-mile journey walks through Conn.

An Army veteran on a journey across the country strode through southwestern Connecticut today.

National Guard Spc. Troy Yocum says that with every step, he's trying to raise awareness and money for military families in need. He has been walking a little more than 14 months, covering nearly 7,000 miles, which now includes Darien and Stamford.

Yocum, who served 13 months in Kuwait and Iraq, says he was inspired by a close friend and veteran who lost his job. He says everyone can take small steps in their local communities to help veterans who have sacrificed so much for the country.

Yocum's mission has hit some bumps along the way, including kidney stones, a foot infection and a strained neck, but he says it's all been well worth it. So far he's raised more than $500,000 and plans to reach $5 million.
