Crash leaves senior in critical condition days before graduation

A Stamford High School senior who was set to graduate this week is in critical condition after police say he was involved in a high-speed crash Friday night.

Investigators say 18-year-old George Tobar was speeding down Newfield Avenue when a car looking to make a left out of Oaklawn Avenue hit him.

The fire department says it had to use the Jaws of Life to get Tobar out of the car.

Investigators say they are still trying to determine who was at fault in the accident. They also say they're not certain if criminal charges will be filed against either driver in the case.

The other driver and passengers in both cars were not seriously hurt.
